Marvellous Millionaires' $hortbread

If you fancy something sweet, both gooey and crunchy, then this is the recipe you've been looking for. The crumbly shortbread, adorned with a creamy caramel and finished off with a layer or dark chocolate is a match made in heaven.

Ingredients

225g plain flour

75g caster sugar

375g butter

405g tin of condensed milk

4tbsp golden syrup

325g plain chocolate

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 170 degrees Celsius.

2. Combine the flour, sugar and 175g of butter in a bowl, rubbing with your fingertips. Then press the mix into a lined 23cm square tin.

4. Flatten with a spoon and prick with a fork.

5. Bake for 5 minutes then turn the oven down to 150 degrees Celsius and bake for a further 30-40 minutes.

Meanwhile, prepare the caramel:

6. Melt the remaining 200g of butter, then add the condensed milk and golden syrup.

7. Stir continuously and bring to the boil. It is finished when it turns thick and is light golden brown in colour.

8. Pour over the shortbread and leave in a cool place to set.

9. Once set, melt the chocolate in a bowl over a pan of water.

10. Then pour over the caramel and, again, leave to set and cool.

Cut into slices and enjoy!
