Italian Florentines
Chewy, gooey and gloriously nutty; these florentines really are the perfect thing if you fancy something decadent and totally scrumptious. Although they appear extravagant they're remarkably easy to make and only need 10 minutes in the oven so you can wow dinner guests by whipping up a quick batch for the end of the evening.
Ingredients
50g butter
50g demerara sugar
50g golden syrup
50g plain flour
25g glacé cherries
50g candied peel
25g flaked almonds
25g walnut pieces
100g dark chocolate
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 180C.
2. In a small saucepan melt the butter with the sugar and golden syrup.
3. Then add the flour, cherries, peel, almonds and walnuts and stir until completely combined.
4. Bake for 8-10 minutes until golden.
5. Remove from the oven but leave to rest on the tray to slightly harden then transfer to a cooling rack.
6. Meanwhile, melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water.
7. When the florentines are completely cool, cover one side in chocolate then leave to cool.
