Following my final Christmas term at school, which was filled with University applications, subsequent interviews and lots and lots of books, it was magical to escape to Vienna for a few days with some friends. Visiting before Christmas was magical: the streets were dripping with twinkling lights, there were Christmas markets aplenty and the air was crisp and frosty.
Our hostel was simple and unassuming but in a great central location, 5 mins walk from the Hauptbahnhof (main station). We arrived on Thursday, mid morning, so headed straight out in search of sustenance. I immediately bought some "Käse Späztle" - a wonderfully warming and comforting pasta style dish mixed with melted cheese and fried onions!
We really tried to do everything that Vienna has to offer in the three days we were there! We climber up St Stephens Cathedral, had a tour of the jewish museum, attempted to look natural in the elegant coffee houses (alas, Viennese ladies are just too chic) and visited a number of wonderful galleries: The Leopold (a personal favourite), The Art History Museum and The Secession Building. Oh, and not to forget the two beautiful Schlosses: The Belvedere and Schönbrunn!
Here are just a few of my photos of this beautiful city xx
