While most of my year were heading off to Mallorca and Ibiza after A Levels, a friend and I hopped on the Eurostar to the beautiful French town of Cassis. We were there for four nights, which worked out to be the perfect amount of time to sample all the delicious seafood on offer, visit some idyllic beaches and take a boat tour out to sea. I cannot recommend it enough!
On day one, we bought tickets at a kiosk on the water front to visit three out of the seven 'Calanques' - creeks that stretch inland, breaking up the coastline. 45 minutes of zipping through the water, pulling into glorious coves and attempting to keep up with the captain's information - all in French! The sea was crystal clear and there wasn't a jelly fish in sight!! I'd recommend taking the boat tour on your first day, as it's a great way to get a some perspective of the area and suss out beaches worth visiting. We decided, later on in the holiday, to hire a kayak and explore the coves in finer detail, so it was well worth seeing the route beforehand!
Following such an incredible trip, we were desperate to cool off in the water, so walked to "plage de l'Arène" where we spent hours snorkelling. Other than my lost flip flop, it was a very successful trip!
Not another person in sight!!
Cassis was a perfect destination in every way but mostly due to the amazing accessibility - we needed no car to get around, so could walk everywhere. Each evening we wandered down to the harbour, which boasts an incredible range of restaurants, stretching all the way along the waterfront. The seafood is a must-try and the sunsets are unbelievable!
