Sometimes, all I want is to be home.
After a summer of new places, lots of people and crazy days, it feels good to be back in "my place" with "my people."
Especially at a time when England is looking so fine - summer light blends with Autumnal leaves to create beautiful shadows and the air seems thinner and crisper. As the days shorten, time outside is precious but so filled with colour and light that each corner of your eyes pick up on new shades and tones.
These few photos are from an early evening walk through Grantchester meadows in Cambridge....
(A lone swan patrolling the river).
(Boats, swimmers and dogs aplenty).
(Apple trees bursting with fruit that's begging to be picked).
(Theatrical shadow shows).
(Evening glory).
(Apple crumble here we come)!!
And here's a poem that I wrote when I was 10. I found it scribbled down on a piece of paper the other day, so thought I'd put it here, just for sentimentality's sake.
Autumn
As summer withdraws,
And Autumn's released,
The sun goes in,
And the wind blows east,
A rustling carpet of light brown feathers,
Is blown around in all the weather,
Leaves never fear for what's to come,
But laugh when their long journey's done.
