Zermatt, 2018

Updated: Aug 30, 2022

When looking back at 2018, there's one thing that's certain - we had a white Christmas, a very, very white one indeed and what a brilliant way to round off the year!

Following the drone chaos at Gatwick, we breathed a HUGE sigh of relief when our plane took off on the 22nd - on time, unaffected!! Our Christmas miracle came early, that's for sure.

We arrived to white mountains and a spattering in the town but after a heavy snowfall the first night and a complete blizzard the next day, both town and mountains were transformed into a crisp, white paradise. After a couple of days in which our worlds were completely white, the sun managed to break through in time for Christmas.

On the 25th itself, we skied over the border to Cervinia, Italy and bowls of steaming pasta with the rest of the moutainside, or so it seemed!

As always, the views were breathtakingly stunning, such that a camera (especially my iphone's, which died from the cold shortly after this shot) can and will never do justice. There's nothing quite like this feeling of being on top of the world!

On the penultimate day, we caught the first train up to the Gornergrat station - one of the highest points in the area. The early wake up and rush through breakfast was worth it for the journey alone, travelling up with the lift operators as the sun rose above the snowy peaks!

Here's to a (late) merry Christmas and a brilliant New Year! 2019!!
