Disclaimer - these pics were all taken on my one walk of the day! #stayhome

It's not often that Cambridge is seen empty. In fact, in all my 15 years of living here, never once have I walked into town unaccompanied by the sounds of passing traffic. Never once have I been able to stroll across the street without the fear of being mown down by speeding bikes and, perhaps most strikingly, never once have I had the city to myself in the absence of the usual swathes of tourists.

Lockdown, despite the overwhelmingly negative cause and effects, does in this case have a teeny silver lining. Cambridge is beautiful year round but in the absence of the crowds which usually characterise it, smaller details appear and the city stands resplendent.

^^ Above - the beautiful Botanical Gardens stand sadly closed but the absence of visitors has given way to troupes of muntjacs.

^^ Above - perhaps the most unusual sight of all: empty bike racks.

^^ Above - closed colleges :(

So until this pandemic is over I'll appreciate this deserted city with its empty streets, frozen marketplace and silent pavements!!
