With travel plans to the Alps foiled by you-know-what, we drove up to the Peak District for a spontaneous night away in search of gradient, weather and walking!
Arriving around lunchtime on Saturday, we booted up and set off for a ramble in the mist. I can't tell you where we went for I have no idea - but apparently the views on a clear day are incredible.
After lots of chips and a night at the Rambler Inn we were suitably fortified for Sunday's epic walk. I don't think I've ever seen better views - it was almost other-worldly as we walked in the sunshine above the clouds, listening to the warbling of grouse.
Leaving the above view behind, we headed across the top of Kinder Scout to the other side just as the clouds were making their way around the base of the hills. Rising as we walked, they swiftly billowed into the valley, enveloping it such that we could have been millions of miles in the air.
Plunging down into the clouds, the air was significantly cooler as we left the sun and sky behind.
Who needs the Alps with views like this? Maybe travel abroad is a thing of the past....?
