Teaching. Hmm, it seemed like such a good idea at the time..
My first few weeks at school have been nothing if not intense - early morning trains (many either nearly or completely missed), 13 different classes aged from 14 up to 20 (?) and lots of tragic projector struggles - cue improvisation and countless games of 'would you rather'!
I've definitely settled into a routine now however and the views from the train window go some way to make up for the rude hour. (There was even snow visible on the far peaks today so bring on the winter season!) What's more, the other teachers are all great so my time in the staffroom is certainly a highlight.
Below - 6am has its perks.
And now - the only 2 pics I have of Wiener Neustadt so far. I've sprinted for a train home pretty much every day but plan on properly exploring this town one day soon.
Other highlights since my last post include a trip to the most beaut bakery ever - Öfferl - just beyond my accommodation and a return to Hawelka for birthday coffees and strudel.
Eat your heart out France! They don't call it 'Viennoiserie' for nothing!
Oh and after an abortive attempt in the rain last week, equipped with my new umbrella, I finally made it to Hundertwasserhaus! You can't actually go inside since people live in these crazy apartments but there's a great café with a film all about Hunderwasser's ideas behind the building.
And now, to Graz!
With a group of friends from Vienna, I took off from school last Friday in the opposite direction towards Graz. The views from the train were stunning and I'm now desperate to catch the same train some day soon and stop off at Semmering to ski!
No snow yet however! Instead, beautiful sun which made climbing up to the Schlossberg even more rewarding. Despite being Austria's second-largest city, there really isn't all that much to do in Graz but we certainly made the most of it and must have eaten at pretty much all the best cafés! A particular highlight was Promenade where we managed to try most dishes between us.
The famous red roofs of the UNESCO old town.
That's it for now. Time to make a presentation about drugs & alcohol for school tomorrow....
